Featured Artist - Tal Saarony
Tal Saarony was born in Tel Aviv and grew up in Israel.  After relocating to the United States, Tal earned her B.F.A. from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, graduating with honors in 1988.  In 1991, Tal completed her masters at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, one of Michigan's most esteemed art institutions.

While studying at Cranbrook, Tal unanimously won the grand prize at the first annual Carnegie International American Handweaver's Competition.  Tal's natural ability to weave such breathtaking masterpieces on her loom, along with her dedication to her craft, earned her a featured review in both Handweaver's Magazine, and American Craft Magazine.

Tal's winning design was to be reproduced into upholstery.  However, because of the fabric's inspired beauty, quality, and incredibly fine craftsmanship, Tal's designs were not able to be reproduced.  The brilliance of Tal's work had such great influence on Carnegie, that he changed the requirements for all future hand weaving competitions.

Tal's silks are so intricate, and require enormous artistic vision and patience. They are unique and truly one of a kind.  Many of her works require months of preparation, coupled closely with her years of hand weaving experience.
